Current Information:Enlisted-Wandsworth Gouzeaucourt New British Cemetery, France
During the night of 27th/28th May, 1917, 13th East Surrey of 120 Brigade, 40th Division, moved forward to support trenches at Gouzeaucourt, to the east of the old Somme battlefield. Their time here was spent building shelters or digging saps forward from the front line, all work that had to be done under the cover of night time. On the morning of 30th May a chance shell landed directly in the Green Line, one of the support trenches and brought death and suffering with it. Among the casualties was Arthur Holt. |
